Welder / Pipe fitter

Overall Job Purpose/Scope:

Our client is a long standing, well established successful business who is currently seeking an experience Welder / Pipe fitter to join their busy team. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the installation, commissioning and repairs of various equipment and pipe systems for a variety of different applications.

Responsible to:

Main Duties and Responsibilities


  • Inspect worksite prior to work start
  • Plan installations and repair work in a safe manner avoiding obstructions
  • Cut, weld, join and bend pipe (Oxy acetylene welding essential / Tig desired)
  • Use of various Hand / Power tools i.e. drills, grinders, hammers and rachets
  • Install a variety of pipework, fittings and components.
  • Various other fabrication and welding work
  • Install and secure pipe to structure
  • Check and test system for leaks and defects
  • Adhering to Health & Safety Regulations at all times


  • Use of Oxy Acetylene welding equipment
  • Select torch tips, filler rods, flux according to welding specifications
  • Setting up equipment i.e. connect hoses, setting regulator valves
  • Clean and degrease workpiece
  • Clean and grind off excessive weld or spatter

Personal Qualities and Qualifications

Personal Specifications:

  • Previous experience working as a welder / pipe fitter
  • Ability to Weld and Fabricate (Oxy Acetylene essential / TIG Advantageous)
  • Ability to work to drawings, blueprints and technical specifications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload efficiently
  • Capable of working on own initiative or as part of a team
  • Comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces

Qualifications and Certification:

  • Diploma, HNC, City & Guilds or similar in Fabrication and Welding (Desired)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • In the absence of formal qualifications, relevant previous experience will be considered.

Additional Information

Working Hours: Monday to Friday (Full Time) / Some weekend and night shifts

Location: Wellington

Remuneration: £14 to £16 p/h – (based on salaries in the area)
